Dal is a very significant part of an everyday meal. Gujarati Dal is a
healthy made with tuvar dal (Split pigeon peas). Today I am sharing
sweet & sour Gujarati dal recipe without garlic and onion.
¾ Cup of Toor Dal (Arhar Dal or Split Pigeon Peas)
Pinch of Asafoetida
1 Dried Red Chili
2 medium sized tomatoes
½ teaspoon Mustard Seeds
½ teaspoon Cumin Seeds
1 teaspoon Grated Ginger
1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
¼ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
½ teaspoon Red Chili Powder
4-5 Curry Leaves
1 tablespoon Jaggery
1 tablespoon Oil
1 ½ tablespoon Chopped Coriander
Salt to taste
Water 3 Cups
Preparation:-
- Wash Tuvar (Toor) Dal with water 2 or 3 times. Pressure cook the dal with 3 cups of water, turmeric powder, and salt (as per your taste) on a medium flame for 3-4 Whistles.
- After that blend the dal by using a whisk till the mixture is a smooth.
- Heat the oil in a pan. Now add fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds. When seeds started crackle add a pinch of asafoetida. Now add curry leaves, dried red chili, chopped ginger, green chili and chopped tomato.
- Stir fry for some time then pours dal in a pan. And also check the consistency of dal, if it is very thick then add some water in it.
- Now add Jaggery, lemon juice, red chili powder and mix well. Cook for 5 to 10 minutes on low flame.
- Transfer the dal into a bowl and garnish it with coriander leaves.
